Stand mixer recipes

Whelp, I just tried posting this question to bakebakebake, and it got rejected as inappropriate(?!) so, I am returning to the bosom of my cooking family....

I just got gifted this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Andrew-James-Electric-Stunning-Cookbook/dp/B006VS6G7G/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1360448413&sr=1-4 for my birthday, and am very excited at the possibilities it opens up!

I've never used a stand mixer before, so my questions are:

1) what are your favourite recipes using the mixer? (particularly sweet)
2) any tips for a novice?
